Anke Neugebauer, born in the former GDR, spent her youth in an environment that was strongly characterized by a lively cultural scene.
This atmosphere, combined with the social and political changes that led to the reunification of Germany, influenced the artist. In the early 1990s,
Neugebauer developed a passion to make photography her profession,
with a desire to capture in pictures the world that surrounded her and had changed so rapidly.
She trained as a photographer at the Lette Verein Berlin/Germany.
Her early work was experimental and explored the boundaries of photography.
With the desire to enter into an academic discourse with her photographs, she completed a degree in audiovisual media in photo art and film directing at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne/Germany.

Her final photographic work was shown 2003 in the exhibition
“Streams of Encounter – elektronic media based artworks”

Seydelei
“Seydelei” stands in memory of my ancestors, who were expelled from their Sudeten German homeland in 1945. A widely ramified, respected family dispersed and the pain was too great to speak, so much was forgotten. Seidel is my birth name and through genealogy I wrote to a neighbor of my grandfather from the Giant Mountains and he asked me in the subject line for the word “Seidelei” which I had never heard before and it felt right to me and touched me because in this simplicity it means so MUCH to family.
